Scribner Literacy in 3 Metaphors
The Scribner Literacy in 3 Metaphors was definitely a tough read in my opinion. I could definitely tell it was well researched and carefully thought up for how it was typed. I do feel like the 3 metaphors were explained very well. It spoke much of how literacy has grown over many years. It also spoke much of how it can almost show a form of social status. I could see much where it was coming from when it talked about poor, lower classes tend to be more illiterate due to their lack of education. Although, I also agreed that you don't need to be extremely literate to be successful. Sometimes it may just take dedication and a good work ethic. When it came to the power part of literacy I thought to Hitler in a way. I don't know if it relates but he managed to turn a nation and stir up the world with the power of his words striking fear into others. I definitely don't believe it was a good use of literacy though. The literacy of grace touched much on religion in my opinion. It spoke of how religious forms of writing can give many people a sense of comfort and memorization can give even more comfort to contain it within themselves. -Austin

I really like your metaphor for literacy as power. Hitlers use of his literacy was negative but he did have a lot of power when he spoke. I think this brings up a point that we need to have very literate leaders because they can push a country to do many things. Hopefully these things are all positive for the country.
